    The Courtyard. This is our vision of independent living, connected to the main home which gives people much more independence, knowing that staff are all on site and on call 24 hours a day.  Residents in The Courtyard have all their own facilities, living room, fully fitted kitchen, one or two bedrooms and bathrooms and the same staff who work in the main home attend the call system.

Who we are

Barry and Hilary Gibbs first opened Chilton Court Residential Home, in Stowmarket, in May 1985.  Barry had experience in both Civil Engineering and business, and Hilary was trained as a nurse and had previous catering experience. Their two boys, Simon and Ben were 12 and 10 and we lived in the home as a family.  The ethos of the home was and always has been to give the residents a caring environment where they could fulfill their wishes to live as independent and fulfilled life as possible.

Hilary managed the home for 20 years and Barry ran the business side of things and was instrumental in extending and improving the home. We started Woodfield Court in 1995 with the same principles. Over the years, we have extended and improved the buildings to give the residents more comfort and facilities. The company, which is wholly owned by the Gibbs family, is the only independent family-run care home Stowmarket. Simon has worked in business for 20 years and now runs the two homes along with his wife Nicola.

  • My mother has been a resident of Woodfield Court since June 2018. She settled in very quickly and is happy and well cared for and above all, safe. The staff are all kind and considerate, no matter how busy they are and Mum has never complained about her care. Mum fell and broke her hip in March and was sent back to Woodfield Court within a week and the care she has received since has been excellent and she is making very good progress. She is 93 years old.

  • My father-in-law was in another care home owned by Stowcare who own Woodfield Court. The care we received there was excellent. Mum moved into Woodfield Court on 3/5/2019 and the care has continued here. All the staff have lots of patience and are very kind and understanding. Nothing seems too much bother for them. There is a very happy atmosphere in the home which is always reassuring. The staff are all very approachable and brief on how mum is progressing every time we visit. Mum regards her flat as her home which is the best endorsement that can be given.

  • My mum has received consistently good care whilst being a resident at the home. Following a recent stay in the hospital, they were very happy to make adjustments to her care package to enable her to return to the home as quickly as possible. There is not a high turnover of staff and they always appear cheerful even when up against challenging situations!
